The gameplay of God of War III is very Similar to that of its predecessors in the series. It is a single-player video game that features a fixed camera from the third-person view. The player controls the game's protagonist character Kratos in a combination of combat, both normal and quick-time, with platforming and puzzle game elements. The game also features a first person camera view during two boss battles (a first for the series). Almost all upgraded weapons and magic acquired in previous games are gone at the beginning of gameplay. Kratos' main weapons are a pair of double-chained blades called the Blades of Exile (initially Blades of Athena), and as the game progresses, Kratos acquires new weapons-the Claws of Hades, the Nemean Cestus, and the Nemesis Whip. The Nemean Cestus (a pair of fist gauntlets), and the Nemesis Whip are required to advance through certain stages of the game. [5] Unlike the previous games in the series, the primary weapons dictate the use of magic, with each weapon having an individual magic ability: Divine Reckoning, Army of Sparta, Soul Summon, Nemean Roar, and Nemesis Rage for the Blades of Athena, Blades of Exile, Claws of Hades, the Nemean Cestus, and Nemesis Whip respectively. Magic is upgraded via upgrading the weapon to roomates each is linked-excluding the temporary Divine Reckoning. The Blade of Olympus is retained, but is no longer a primary weapon, being now utilized in conjunction with the special ability, the Rage of Sparta, roomates is the equivalent to the previously-used-Abilities Rage of the Gods in God of War and Rage of the Titans in God of War II respectively-and provides temporary invulnerability and Increased attack damage. During the game, the player finds orbs chests containing colored green, blue, red, and white. Green orbs Replenish health, Replenish magic blue ones, red ones Replenish experience-for upgrading weapons and magic and making new and more powerful attacks available-and white orbs, replacing gold orbs from God of War II, Replenish the Rage meter for the Rage of Sparta. The player also collects red orbs by killing foes and destroying certain inanimate objects. Gorgon Eyes and Phoenix Feathers, roomates increase of the maximum amount of Health and Magic respectively, return, although in this instance, the player must find three Eyes or Feathers-as opposed to the original six-to increase of each meter's maximum. Minotaur Horns have been added to increase of the Items meters and require three Horns to increase of the meter's maximum. The player finds the Eyes, Feathers, Horns and in a style of chest that differs from normal Health and magic-giving chests. [6]
Many of the familiar combination attacks reappear, with new additions Including the combat grapple: a ranged grab maneuver that, Depending on the weapon, can either pull Kratos towards foes or forces them away-necessary at certain points in the game, with Kratos riding Effectively harpies across chasms-and a simple grab with bare hands that Allows Kratos to use lesser foes as a battering ram. Kratos can also rapidly switch between all four primary weapons in battle and continue the same attack combination. Combat includes a quick time event (QTE) feature that is initiated when the player has weakened a strong foe. The player performs actions on the control device shortly after the appearance of an on-screen prompt using the circle button on the controller. It Allows limited control of Kratos during the QTE cinematic sequences. If the player Succeeds, the battle ends, whereas Usually failure resulting in damage. [5]
The quick-time sex mini-game included in previous installments returns in the form of an encounter with goddess Aphrodite (while her two servants watch), but with an added story component. [7] Other extra features includes the addition of ten God Possessions , roomates are Often hidden near foes and provide additional Defeated Abilities during bonus play.
